“Fine picking all around, but the banjo work shines. The vocals and production values are topnotch. There are plenty of opportunities for Newton to shine on classic tunes...”
— Bluegrass Unlimited
Young Heart, Old Soul
Garrett Newton is a gifted young banjo player from Eastern North Carolina. At a young age, he began attending local bluegrass picking sessions and quickly became enamored with the traditional bluegrass sound. He has devoted significant time to learning the history and absorbing the recordings of the first generation of bluegrass artists and it clearly shows in the style and drive of his banjo playing.
Newton may not have a lot of years under his belt but he is one heck of a talent and the Garrett Newton Band highlights the best that bluegrass has to offer. The current release, YOUNG HEART, OLD SOUL, onPinecastle Records showcases how raw talent paired with veteran bluegrass musicians, offers a new sound that is sweet music to the genre. Our single, “Country Poor and Country Proud” is currently charting on both the Bluegrass National and Roots Music Report charts.
The project is available to download for radio programmers fromAirPlay Direct, and worldwide on all major distributors, iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, etc.
Recent Festival performances include well known stages such as: Bristol Bluegrass Spring Fest, Christmas in the Smokies, Old Rock School, IBMA, Cabin Fever and many more! We are just getting ready to go on our first tour with Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road to Ireland to play at the Ardara Bluegrass Festival and are so excited. Garrett Newton is an exceptional "Earl Scruggs style" banjo player. Not only can he play banjo, he can talk banjo with the best. He is fronting the Garrett Newton Band while also touring with Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road on their “Country Grass” tour. Band members include: Garrett Newton, Banjo; Parks Icenhour, Lead Guitar/Bass Vocals; Allen Dyer, Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals' Lorraine Jordan, Acoustic Bass/Tenor Vocals; and Daniel Aldridge, Mandolin/Baritone Vocals and Chris Hill, Fiddle.
